It’s that amazing time of year when you cannot believe that it’s still light at 10pm on the Isles of Scilly – arguably lighter than anywhere else in England!
This is also a perfect time to go camping here – warm evenings, calm waters, amazing walks, fantastic fishing and foraging on the beaches. Great pubs and cafes, too. And it’s so much quieter right now, before the school holidays get underway.
Where better to camp, then, than the truly beautiful campsite on St Martin’s? It’s ranked number 1 on Trip Advisor, and with very good reason: “A real gem of the Scillies”; “Our favourite campsite in the UK by far”; “Perfect place for a chilled out break” are just some of the comments from couples who have stolen many a peaceful moment.
St Martin’s Campsite is run by our friends Ben and Caroline Gillett –both give us a helping hand during the winter when we are packing lots of narcissi. Theirs is the only campsite on Scilly to be awarded four stars by Visit Britain.
It goes without saying that it’s immaculately clean, offers free Wi-Fi, provides fresh croissants every morning and is so safe and friendly. But what really sets this campsite apart is its location: literally moments from a glistening and beautiful white sandy beach; the incredible privacy you are afforded if you want it in small, sheltered fields; or the amazing sense of community and togetherness if you want to make new friends. And of course if you do come at this time of year, you can bring your dogs – and they won’t be disappointed either.
The pub is open for business after an extensive renovation, the shop, tearoom and bakery are all thriving and the weather is fantastic! And of course you can drop by to come and hello to us here at Churchtown Farm.
So what are you waiting for?
